The day my motorbike lost power and nearly set alight
At the beginning of September, I started doing a motorbike maintenance course at Hackney College. One of the items on my ever growing bucket list is to take a motorbike travelling holiday and I thought it would be a good idea to get some basic mechanic knowledge behind me before going on any kind of long distance trip. While I’m not 100 percent sure where I want to go on my bike yet, one of my dream trips would be to try and replicate the amazing Santiago to San Francisco surf…
BikeSafe London Course review
A lot of bikers will tell you that once you pass the bike test, that is when the real learning starts – when you are out on your own, without an instructor to guide you or give you advice. Even before my accident, I was really keen to do a BikeSafe London course. BikeSafe is a national initiative and is a one day motorbike course taught by professional police motorcyclists. The aim of BikeSafe is to reduce collisions and introduce bikers to post-test training. Depending on where you live, you…
I have a licence!
At the beginning of the year I read The Alchemist. I didn’t think it was the amazing book that everyone makes it out to be, but there was one line that really resonated with me. “Everything that happens once can never happen again. Again, like my…
20’s plenty – My Mod 2 experience
I’d finally passed my Mod 1 motorbike test! Now I needed to focus on all my energy on getting through my Mod 2 so I could finally get my licence. The date was set for the end of August and I was quietly confident that I would pass. I’d had a lot of instruction in the local area (Enfield) and knew all about the roads to be aware of. I was still feeling pretty nervous as I was waiting for my name to be called – although I had been lucky with…
Mod 1 = It’s a pass!
On 7 August, I was booked in for my third Mod 1 test. This time round I was booked at a different test centre which had a slightly better pass rate and reputation. To be honest, this doesn’t massively phase me. Each time I failed my Mod 1, I had the same examiner. I didn’t have an issue with him at all, I actually found him to be courteous and professional but I know that other instructors don’t have the same reputation. I didn’t feel hugely confident when I work…
