Mod 2

Module 2 is the on-road part of the test. An examiner will take you out for around 40 minutes to assess your riding. This will start with an eyesight test and then you will have to answer the “show me, tell me” safety and maintenance questions.

Usually the examiner will be on a motorbike for this part of the test but they can also follow you in a car. You’ll be given instructions via a headset.

At a few points during the test you will need to pull over at the side of the road. You will then be asked to “move off when you are ready”.  The examiner may have stopped you on a hill or behind a car so they can see you can move off safely.

For around 10 minutes of the test they will also ask you to do some independent riding (they might say follow the signs to Slough and then leave you to it for a while).

During the independent riding part of the test, you will not get marked down for taking a wrong turn. The examiner is not testing your navigation skills, but your ability to make your own decisions and get to where you need to be safely, while obeying the rules of the road.

To pass Mod 2 you need to get less than 10 “minor” faults and no “serious” or “dangerous” faults. If you get a number of minor faults in the same area, the examiner may see that as a serious issue and could fail you.

If you fail, you need to leave 10 working days before your next test.
