I have a licence!
At the beginning of the year I read The Alchemist. I didn’t think it was the amazing book that everyone makes it out to be, but there was one line that really resonated with me.
“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”
I had to do my Mod 1 test three times and as I mentioned in my previous post, I felt like this Mod 2 test was the one I was going to pass.
Again, like my third Mod 1 test, my third Mod 2 test was also going to be at Uxbridge test centre. This kind of symmetry, made me feel like that day was my day. (I also passed my car test third time round at Uxbridge).
To be honest, there isn’t much to say about this test. I was more relaxed going into this than I was in either of the previous ones. I took my time, stayed focused and didn’t let any negative thoughts take over too much of my ride. When we got back to the test centre, I couldn’t pinpoint anything that could have resulted in a fail.
I felt like a huge weight had been lifted when the examiner said “You’ve passed” when we were back at the test centre. I hadn’t slept very well the days before the test, as I was pretty worried about it. I also didn’t realise until I had passed, how emotionally draining the cycle of failing a test then waiting ten days to take the next one was.
While I had no serious or dangerous faults on this test, I had more minors than I’d had on both previous tests. I had four minors in one section and in some cases this would amount to a fail. But as I’ve mentioned before, passing and failing is often down to the examiners discretion. He obviously didn’t think that the issue was serious enough to fail me on.
Although I was relieved to have passed the test, I’d be lying if I said I felt as happy as I thought I would. I was annoyed that I scraped a pass this time round. If I had one more minor in that section, I probably would have failed. Had I passed the test first time round, I would have been ecstatic. But then, the feeling was a little muted as I had gone through the process so many times.
Finally, three months after my initial DAS course, I was the proud owner of a motorcycle licence. Now the fun can really start!

My goodness, it’s such a long and expensive process to take your test these days! I passed my full motorcycle test back in 1984 (gosh, that makes me SO old!) and it was so straightforward. Well done on passing and hope you enjoy two-wheeled travel as much as I still do (although I’m into scooters rather than bikes!).

Yep! Very long. It’s worth it though!
