Mod 1
Module 1 is the off-road part of the test and takes place at a DVSA test centre.
It lasts around 20 minutes and is a test of your control of the bike.
There are some slow control manouvers such as a U-turn, slalom and figure of eight. There are also some high speed manouvers – the emergency stop and hazard avoidance exercise must both be done at a minimum speed of 32mph (50kph).

You are allowed 5 “minor” faults on this part of the test, although certain things, like putting a foot down on the U-turn will be classed as a “serious” fault and will result in a automatic fail.
The examiner will tell you to “treat the test like you are on the road” so you will need to ensure that you make all the correct observations before moving off as you would do if you were riding, I saw a man fail his test as he didn’t do a lifesaver before starting his turn in the U-turn part of the exercise.
The Mod 1 test can be on a right-hand or left-hand circuit so you should be made to practise on both sides.
If you fail, you will need to wait 3 working days before you can attempt the test again.
